interfaith Family Services

SERVICE CHAIRS:  Claudia Aronoff, Maureen Waldie

For three decades, Interfaith Family Services (formerly Interfaith Housing Coalition of Dallas) has been serving working-poor families and is the only Dallas agency that provides transitional housing for families experiencing a housing crisis. Working-poor families do not require, nor do most desire, long-term subsidized housing.  They only need a "hand-up" when homelessness occurs.

Interfaith's success formula includes stabilizing families by providing them with a fully furnished apartment along with skill development through job training, budget mentoring and life-skills classes.  IFS increases the self-worth of families by counseling adults and teens and through play therapy for children.

Dallas Junior Forum members assist IFS by setting up apartments and assisting adults and teens with writing résumés, applying for jobs, and "dressing for success."  In addition, DJF members help families learn budgeting, tutor chidren after achool, and help IFS's daycare staff with the younger children.
