DJF Celebrates: 40 Years of Service

Kimberly Schlegel Whitman seatedDallas Junior Forum celebrated 40 Years of Service at our annual Spring Event April 26. Jane McGarry, co-host of WFAA TV's "Good Morning, Texas" served as Mistress of Ceremonies and our guest speaker was Dallas lifestyle expert, author and philanthropist Kimberly Schlegel Whitman.

"Ms. Whitman's giving spirit matches DJF's mission to benefit children, families and the elderly in need in the greater Dallas area," said Spring Event Chair Mary Cartwright

"The event is DJF's premier fundraiser each year" said DJF President Mary Lou Fleming. "Those funds enabled DJF to deliver over 8,000 meals annually to victims of domestic violence and the families of critically ill children as well as over $123,000 in grant and non-grant funding. In the most recent fiscal year DJF members volunteered over 16,400 hours valued at over $411,800 in savings in staff wages, taxes and benefits to our partner agencies."

DJF Honored For 40 Years of Service By Dallas Council Member Jennifer Staubach Gates on Behalf of Mayor Rawlings

City of Dallas Recognizes DJF 40 Years Of Service

Councilmember Gates read a Special Recognition to Dallas Junior Forum from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings' office. The document recognized DJF for serving children and families in crisis and the elderly since 1977 with through more than 220,000 hours of volunteer work and over $1 million awarded to North Texans in need.

Councilmember Gates said that government today cannot meet all demands on their time and resources.  "We can't do it alone," Gates said.  "It takes organizations like (DJF) and getting involved through your church and your neighborhood.  We depend on our citizens to make our city great."

Dallas Junior Forum's community volunteer services include these five proprietary program areas:

"Nourish to Flourish" - food purchasing, preparation and distribution.
"Under Our Wings" - volunteer mentoring services for adults and teens who need assistance with managing finances, career planning and life skills.
"Child Stars" - helping children learn and thrive through tutoring, other educational resources, and after-school activities.
"Golden Friendships" - cherishing and cheering our elders with interactive activities and personal relationships.
"At Your Service" - volunteering wherever and whenever we are needed.
