DJF Honored By Dallas Council Member Jennifer Staubach Gates For 40 Years Of Service on Behalf of Mayor Rawlings
As the sun set golden over White Rock Lake on November 10, Dallas Junior Forum members gathered for the "Kick-off Anniversary Celebration for 40 Years of Service" at the Dallas Arboretum on November 10.
Councilmember Gates said that government today cannot meet all demands on their time and resources. "We can't do it alone," Gates said. "It takes organizations like (DJF) and getting involved through your church and your neighborhood. We depend on our citizens to make our city great."
Gates read a Special Recognition to DJF from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings' office. The document recognized DJF for serving children and families in crisis and the elderly since 1977 with more than 220,00 hours of volunteer work and over $1 million awarded to North Texans in need. In 2016 DJF volunteers contributed more than 16,400 hours of work including preparing over 8,000 meals for families of hospitalized children and those affected by domestic violence. Also in 2016, DJF awarded $123,700 to North Texas Charitable agencies and contributed over $500,000 in volunteer hours to support the lives of over 46,000 children, families and the elderly.
DJF presidents from past decades, Ann W. Jones (1987-88), Dede Furlong (1988-89), and Mary Paul (1990-91) attended the event. Other past presidents present included Kristin Parrino, Julie Sheridan, Marianna Thiebaud, Valerie McMahan, Vanessa Hoffman and Mary Cartwright. Current President Mary Lou Fleming served as emcee.
